Instant Pot Split Pea Soup

Split pea soup is one of the most underrated soups in my opinion! And this is a huge favorite in our house.

Split peas are high in fiber and protein and can help stabilize blood sugar for a slow burning energy. The onions, celery, carrots and bone broth are bonus.

INGREDIETS:

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 4 large organic carrots, diced

  • 5 organic celery stalks, diced

  • 4 cloves of garlic, diced

  • 1.5 tablespoons of ghee

  • 1 lb smoked pasture raised ham hock (bone & meat) *leftover spiral ham works great as well, diced

  • 2 cups organic dried green split peas

  • 6 cups of bone broth

  • 2 teaspoons of salt *this will also depend on if your ham hock is smoked or not

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon cumin

  • 2 bay leaves

instructions:

Step 1: Dice your vegetables and add the onion, carrot, celery, garlic and ghee to your Instant Pot.

Step 2: Turn on the sauté function and sauté for about 5 minutes, until fragrant and onions are a bit translucent.

Step 3: Turn off the sauté function on your Instant Pot and add your ham, dried split peas, salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, and bay leaves. Stir to mix all ingredients together.

Step 4: Place the lid on your Instant Pot and turn it on manual high heat for 25 minutes.

Step 5: When done cooking release pressure manually (by twisting your release nozzle on the top of your Instant Pot).

Step 6: Remove ham hock and slice meat off bone, add meat back to the Instant Pot and discard bone.

Step 7: Stir to thicken and let cool before serving. Enjoy!
