Bentonite Clay: Why this should absolutely be in your wellness kit
Bentonite is a natural clay that is usually formed from weathering of volcanic ash in seawater. People have used bentonite clay for thousand of years to remove impurities from the skin and remove toxins from the body. The theory behind bentonite clay is it absorbs materials by sticking to their molecules or ions. As the bentonite leaves the body, it takes with it the toxins or other molecules with it. In addition, bentonite clay is said to have the power to absorb bacteria which makes it a go-to after a tick bite, and any other insect bite for that matter. It also contains natural minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and iron!
So how do people use this magic clay?
Removing toxins from the body through ingesting bentonite clay
Treating oily skin and acne
Armpit/Foot detox
Scalp/Hair treatment
Treating poison ivy
Treating diaper rash
Throw it in your next bath for extra detoxing
Removing lead and other heavy metals
Treating insect bites (mosquitos, spiders, tick, etc)
While I don’t recommend ingesting bentonite clay without a practitioner, topical use can be quite safe. Bentonite clay is an ancient remedy that I recommend everyone have on hand, if only for bug bites!
bug bite clay mask:
1 teaspoon of bentonite clay
1 teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar
Instructions:
Mix equal parts bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl *the mixture will bubble and fizz. Mix until paste is smooth. Apply a small amount of your mask onto any bug bites that you might have. Allowing the mask to dry, about 20-30 minutes. Once dried you can wipe it off with warm water on a towel. Repeat as needed.
